Slowmango blend influences from across the globe into a sweet and savoury buffet of international groove, developing a sound which invokes moments of compulsive danceability and upbeat celebration, without forgetting Sunday mornings and afternoon drives. Known for their wildly original and highly immersive live shows, the South Australian based six-piece have gigged relentlessly since their inception in mid-2019 - packing out dancefloors at Dark MOFO and Darwin Festival in 2021 and taking out ‘Best New Artist’ at the 2020 SA Music Awards.

Described as a hard-hitting Khruangbin with a sprinkling of future jazz and a penchant for improvisation, Slowmango have so far released a 3-track self titled EP and a follow up single ‘Paradise International’ to critical acclaim, with a string of further releases slated for early 2022. Taking inspiration from Ethio Jazz and Thai Funk, to West-African Disco and Peruvian Psych, the group have found a sweet-spot between their international influences and carved out a niche in the Australian musical landscape - placing them in the unique position of playing major national arts festivals, while still maintaining enough groove for late nights in clubs and pubs.

And while music sits at the core of Slowmango’s world, visual art is always in its orbit. Working closely with sister arts-collective The Bait Fridge, the two groups create boundary pushing live shows and immersive experiences in which hyper-colourful costumes, spontaneous performance and musical explorations collide into an entrancing experience of visual, sonic and social evolution - blurring the borders between music and art.

Catch Slowmango x The Bait Fridge every month at The Lab as part of their 6-month residency in 2021. But get in quick, as tickets sell out quick.
